The Chocolate Tour
Cycling Photos:
Chocolate Tour committee member Steve Holland will have a team of photographers strategically stationed along the cycling routes to capture photos of our riders and the beautiful central Pennsylvania scenery and covered bridges.  These photos will be available for sale on his website, www.zenfolio.com/imaginations. Available items will include digital downloads and prints in popular sizes, all at very reasonable prices.  And best of all, proceeds benefit the Conner M Holland Foundation (cmhollandfoundation.org), which provides financial support to families of children with pediatric cancer, and runs the Conner’s Comfies ™ program that distributes new pajamas to sick children at the Hershey Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

2021 Cycling EVEnt

The cycling routes this year have a central location (Manheim) and a bike route heading in the direction of or including a particular chocolate town, with a rest stop in the middle featuring chocolate from that town (draft map shows all routes including the 10-mile route-red).

Participants can ride from 10 to 100 miles by selecting particular combinations of marked routes.

The 30-mile Myerstown Town Route (Home of Smith's Candies) is the flattest route and includes 2 covered bridges, one of which is the longest in the world (pink route on map).

A 20-mile Hershey Town Route (Home of the Hershey Chocolate Factory) is an advanced fairly hilly route, which traverses through forests and past a lake.  No covered bridges are on this route (blue route on map).

Next is the 25-mile Lititz Town Route (Home of the Wilbur Chocolate Factory).  This route includes many pretty features and allows riders to experience the Amish farm country with two covered bridges.  One bridge is the prettiest in the area (yellow route on map).  The ride also passes through side-streets in Lititz, hailed as the “Coolest small town in America."

The final route is the Elizabethtown Route (Home of the M&M Mars Chocolate Factory).  This route is half flat and half low rolling hills through areas with a lot of rivers, Amish farms and two covered bridges (green route on map).

ALL CYCLISTS
We recommend ALL cyclists have the following items with them when riding in-person or virtually. We will not be providing support or assistance:
  • Spare tubes, especially if they are a unique size. SAG drivers will have some standard sizes with them but may not be close to you.
  • CO2 inflator or a hand pump.
  • Auxiliary power supply for your phone.
  • Emergency information and ID.
  • A bike tool for quick repairs.
  • A water to last the duration of your ride.
Also, for your safety, we encourage you to inspect your bike for defects prior to arrival for the ride.
Rules of Riding
We encourage ALL cyclists participating in the Chocolate Tour follow the rules:
  • Helmets are required at all times while riding
  • Please ride in single file at all times.
  • Signal your turns and stops- visually and vocally
  • Pass only on the left; announce passing “on your left”
  • Let every rider LOOK for themselves.
  • Do not use earbuds while riding
  • We have marked busy intersections with extra CAUTION markings, but please consider every intersection as dangerous. Every rider should LOOK for themselves to ensure their own safety.
  • Stop at all stop signs, obey all traffic laws
  • Share the road with walkers, joggers, and vehicles
  • Move completely off to side of road if stopping for any reason
  • Pace lines are discouraged-this is not a race
  • Enjoy your ride
**NOTE:  Topography in Central Pennsylvania
There is is an average of 1,000 ft of climbing and descending every 25 miles and rolling flat will be as flat as the routes can be.

Please be aware and take this into consideration when choosing your route
